Lyle Johnson’s Steps to Success

Lyle Johnson is a final year student on his last legs of his student life at TSiBA. He is on his internship which at TSiBA is called individual industry practical project (IPJ).

He is based at The Waterfront and is interning at General Reinsurance. The first two days were settling in time he said but then they set me to work.

When interviewed he mentioned that it has not always a smooth ride at TSiBA and he has faced many challenges including writing supplementary exams and facing personal issues.

Last year he also broke his leg and was seen hobbling to the campus as he was determined to pull through. He is also mad keen on soccer.

So he gave me his secret to success and this is it:

1.    God First

Matthew 6:33 states, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”. This is one of my favourite verses and one that stuck with me through my studies. Yes it is hard work studying toward a degree and it takes up a lot of time, but we have to realise that everything we have in life, we have only because of the grace of God. Never work God into your schedule, work your schedule around God. (Joyce Meyer) So know matter how busy we think we are, we should always make time for God and seek him first above all else, and surely he will provide for our needs and more.

2.    Keep Your Eye On The Prize

Studying toward a degree means tons of assignments, tests, presentations, exams, etc. It’s a lot of hard work! So when you feel as if things are getting too much and too tough for you, look at the end result and the reward you will get for putting in the hard work now.

3.    When You Fall, Get Back Up

My journey at TSiBA was not always smooth. There were a few bumps along the way. I failed a couple of subjects and wrote e few supplementary exams as well, but what is important is that I never gave up and got right back up every time I fell.

Lyle also went through a work preparedness course at TSiBA and some home truths were given to him. He took them in his stride to change and he is now doing very well on his internship.

Lyle is due to graduate in June!!!
