TSiBA IS DRIVING CHANGE - CELEBRATING ANOTHER 2 MANDELA RHODES SCHOLARS

30 Oct 2014

We have just received fabulous news that we wanted to share with you immediately!  Joseph Maisels and Zikhona Ngumbela today received notification that they were both accepted as Mandela Rhodes Scholars for 2015.  This is phenomenal news as TSiBA continues to produce the highest percentage of Mandela Rhodes Scholars of all the universities in South Africa.

Congratulations Jo and Zikhona! You are our 6th and 7th Mandela Rhodes Scholars in the 7 years we have been conferring degrees at TSiBA and you are truly an inspiration to your friends, family, peers, community and our nation.

And thank-you to you! Nurturing leaders and entrepreneurs of this calibre is a collective effort and without the whole-hearted support of our staff, volunteers, donors and friends it simply would not be possible.

Not that we needed any more proof that TSiBA truly is igniting social change, but just to make it official - on Tuesday night, the Mail & Guardian announced TSiBA as the winner of their 2014 Drivers of Change in Youth Development award. You can read all about it in this weekend’s Mail & Guardian supplement.

Adri Marais, TSiBA CEO attended the awards and recalls that “As I sat on the plane back home from the Jo’burg awards ceremony last night, I reflected on the enormity of the phrase “Drivers of Change” and I was again struck by how easy it is for our talented youth to become the leaders they were born to be – they simply need a chance and people who believe in them. Zikhona and Joseph got such a chance and joined TSiBA on a full scholarship to study towards a Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA).  Both are poised to graduate at the end of this year and Jo is in line to potentially be TSiBA’s first cum laude graduate.”

These awards are the 10th and 11th Prestigious Scholarships awarded to our graduates in our 10 years - what a fitting way to conclude our Power of 10 celebrations!

Please have a look at the latest Power of 10 Annual Report on our website to read about the transformation that TSiBA’s programmes are igniting in all our stakeholders’ lives. And watch this space because 2014 is not over yet…..

Thanks to your support we will continue to help weave the fabric of a strong and healthy society through education.
