Overview of the Postgraduate Diploma in Small Enterprise Consulting
Run by TSiBA Business School as an 18 month modular programme the PGDiP SEC (NQF 8) is aimed at managers, leaders, coaches, mentors and consultants with an interest in helping support the growth and development of South Africa’s future entrepreneurs.
The programme will lay the groundwork to guide the growth of micro-enterprises into small and medium-sized businesses. Thanks to a partnership with B360 Partners in Education, the PGDiP SEC is delivered by the TSiBA academics alongside international industry experts.
The programme consists of six core courses with one elective and an experiential learning.
Small Enterprise Consulting
The purpose of this course is to enable the student apply knowledge acquired during the course on entrepreneurs to enable them to develop their businesses to greater heights. The other purpose of this course is to enable the student to implement their learning within a supported environment and develop their own case studies using theory tools to analyse the entrepreneurial path.
Applied Coaching and Mentoring
This module aims to apply the disciplines of mentoring and coaching and imparts insight on how to address common challenges faced by entrepreneurs. To equip students with critical coaching and mentoring skills.
Communication and Legal
Business Communication and Information Management
The business communication focus trains students to think and write strategically. The second part introduces and applies management skills in deploying and managing information technology to business development.
Legal and Regulatory Environment of Business
This module introduces the legal and policy environment of business in South Africa. Emphasis is placed on the SMME sector and implications of the sector policies and legal environment on entrepreneurship in South Africa.
This module deals with the economics, strategy and marketing of entrepreneurship.
The module is focused on the theory and practice of the financing of entrepreneurial firms. Students will be exposed to an in-depth analysis of cash flow in attracting finance for growth.
Leadership and Self-Development
The module places emphasis on balance, sustainability and positive psychology and is built around the personal foundations that are required to build resilience in the leadership role and to apply the practices of positive leadership to instil leadership drive in entrepreneurs.
Global Entrepreneurship Business
The module will examine the international business environment particularly that of the major and emerging trading partners of South Africa and analyse opportunities and strategies for growth and extension of small business across South African borders. Particularly a critical evaluation and analysis on business opportunities and investment and business network potentials within the SADC, COMESA region and Africa at large as well as within India, China, Brazil and Russia is covered.
This module discusses key concepts in the historical development of social enterprise and innovation and to its changing role in society and the economy critical understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of social entrepreneurship. It centres around the ability to critically examine the conditions required for innovation and entrepreneurship to make a strong impact on societal problems.
