A first management role can quickly erode confidence and team trust when the shift from doing the work to enabling others is left unexplained. In this course, you examine how your responsibilities, priorities, accountability and measures of success change when you become a manager. You learn to distinguish between leadership and management, decide what different workplace situations require, and build credibility when managing people who were previously your peers.
Through practical workplace scenarios, you develop the judgement to set fair expectations, create psychological safety and use timely, specific feedback to strengthen performance and trust. You finish with a management readiness assessment, two focused development goals and a practical 30-day trust-building plan tailored to a real workplace situation.

How responsibilities, priorities, accountability and measures of success shift from individual contributor to manager, and how to make decisions with the team’s outcomes in view rather than your own output
Assess real workplace situations and choose the approach needed to provide direction, support people and deliver results.
Set clear boundaries, apply expectations fairly, create psychological safety and use timely, specific feedback to build trust and motivation.
The step from doing the work to being accountable for other people’s work is the biggest change in a career, and it usually arrives with a new title and no handover.
Typical job titles: senior analyst, team leader, supervisor, project coordinator, technical specialist.
You were promoted from inside the team, and the relationships that made you good at the job are suddenly the hardest part of it.
Typical job titles: team leader, shift supervisor, assistant manager, acting manager, department lead.
You picked it up by imitation and instinct, it mostly works, and you want to know what good management is actually made of before a harder situation tests it.
Typical job titles: operations manager, branch manager, practice manager, store manager, small business owner.
Orientation module + 2 modules. Each module runs one week at 2-4 hours.
Start with what an effective managerial mindset actually involves — accountability, informed decision-making, delegating and monitoring progress — and how that differs from the mindset of a strong individual contributor. Then work through how responsibilities, priorities and measures of success change on the move to manager, and how to tell whether a situation calls for leading, managing, or both.
Output: a management readiness self-assessment and two development goals.
Work through managing former peers professionally — setting boundaries, applying expectations fairly, communicating clearly — and how everyday managerial behaviour builds psychological safety, so people feel able to ask questions, raise concerns and admit mistakes. Then look at how credibility accumulates through reliability, honesty, preparation and follow-through, and at feedback as the tool that keeps expectations and motivation consistent.
Output: a 30-day trust-building plan for a workplace scenario.
