Course Overview

The conversation you've been putting off, the stakeholder who keeps blocking your idea, the presentation that didn't land the decision — none of it is a technical-skill problem. It's a communication one, and it's usually what stands between capable professionals and their next step.

Over six weeks you'll map who actually decides on a workplace issue and adapt your message for them, plan a difficult conversation properly instead of winging it, give feedback people can act on, cut a wordy draft into a message busy people actually read, and build a presentation around one decision-ready message. By the end of the course you'll have a Business Communication Portfolio built from your own workplace challenges.

Who is this course for?

Professionals stepping up, or positioning to

You're preparing for promotion, moving into management, or starting a new role, and the expectations just shifted: you're now judged on how you run conversations, influence stakeholders and present to decision-makers.

Typical job titles: team lead, project coordinator, analyst moving toward management.

A specialist whose ideas deserve more traction

Your work is strong, but explaining it — to your manager, a client, or a room of non-specialists — is where things stall.

Typical job titles: engineer, accountant, developer, other technical professional.

Anyone whose job runs on people

Your week is meetings, emails, client relationships and the occasional tense conversation, and this course sharpens what you already do every day.

Typical job titles: account manager, HR practitioner, consultant, client-facing coordinator.

Curriculum

Orientation module + 6 modules + capstone. Each module runs one week at 4–6 hours.

ORIENTATIONGet set up, meet your cohort, assess your readiness
01Communication for Influence: Purpose, Audience and Context

Start from the foundation every effective communicator works from: knowing exactly what you want your message to achieve, what your audience needs and worries about, and which tone and channel fit the situation. You'll practise on a real message you actually need to send.

Output: a reviewed communication note and a tone-and-channel comparison for a workplace scenario.

02Stakeholder Engagement and Ethical Influence

Identify who's really involved in a workplace issue, map their interests, concerns and likely support or resistance, and choose influence approaches that build trust rather than burn it.

Output: a stakeholder map, an influence plan, and one key message adapted for at least two stakeholder groups.

03Preparing for Difficult Conversations

Take the conversation you've been putting off and plan it properly: a clear objective, anticipated reactions and tension points, a structured opening, key points and close, and tools for managing emotion in the moment.

Output: a one-page conversation plan for a real or realistic challenging discussion.

04Managing Conflict and Giving Feedback

Practise active listening in tense interactions, give feedback that's specific, respectful and action-focused, and choose a response strategy when you meet disagreement or defensiveness.

Output: a structured de-escalation plan and a feedback draft you can use in your own workplace.

05Structuring Clear and Credible Business Messages

Turn messy requests into logically structured messages, cut wordy drafts down to direct business writing, and back your point with the right evidence for your audience — including a check-your-learning conversation to test and refine your draft.

Output: one polished workplace email or memo plus the evidence choices behind it.

06Designing and Delivering Impactful Presentations

Plan a presentation around one core message and a real audience need, sequence your content so it's easy to follow, use evidence and storytelling to persuade, and review your slide design and delivery choices for professionalism.

Output: a complete message plan and a self-reviewed presentation structure.

Capstone — Your Business Communication Portfolio

Bring a real communication challenge from your own role and work it through everything you've built: audience and purpose, stakeholder insight, key message, slide plan, delivery notes, and a reflection on how you'd sharpen it further. This is the artifact you keep.
