Programme Description

The Higher Certificate in Business Administration is a gateway qualification for careers and further studies in Business Administration and Management. The qualification has a strong vocational orientation: its aim is to embed selected disciplinary knowledge in appropriate practical contexts. While the qualification might serve as a springboard for further studies for some, it can provide an opportunity to formalise and legitimise the practical experience of others, thus enabling meaningful career progression. In accordance with the TSIBA ethos, the Higher Certificate in Business Administration is underpinned by principles of responsible management education: its aim is not just to train productive individuals, but responsible global citizens.

School leavers with a Higher Certificate or Diploma matric pass
Your matric results qualify you for accredited higher education right now. This one-year qualification gets you started in business study and articulates directly into a diploma or degree.
Young work-starters who need a qualification that opens doors quickly
If you've finished school, taken a gap year, or started studies that didn't work out, this is a one-year, career-focused route into entry-level administration, operations and coordination roles, with the option to keep building afterwards.
Experienced administrators and supervisors without a formal qualification
You already do the work; what's missing is the certificate that proves it. This qualification formalises the management and administration skills you've built on the job and removes the credential barrier standing between you and promotion.
Career changers and returning learners moving into business
Whether you're moving across from another sector or restarting studies you had to put on hold, this qualification can be studied part-time over two years, and counts as a recognised NQF Level 5 credential from day one of your next application.

Entry Requirements

✓National Senior Certificate with Higher Certificate endorsement (or equivalent)
✓Minimum 18 points on the TSIBA Points System (TPS)
✓Minimum 40% in Mathematics at NSC (or equivalent) to register for QMB-100 or PAF-100
✓RPL route available for applicants 21+ with significant work experience or alternative training in business administration or management (limited to 10% of cohort)
Career focusEntry-level business and administration roles, or progression into the Bachelor of Business Administration with credits for five modules carrying across.

If you meet the BBA's admission requirements, you can apply directly for the degree. If you don't yet qualify, the Higher Certificate provides a pathway into the BBA, with credits for five first-year modules carrying across when you progress.
