5-Day Design Thinking & Social Impact Innovation Sprint
An immersive, fast-paced learning experience focused on human-centered design, teamwork, and creative problem-solving. Work alongside social entrepreneurs and changemakers to address real community challenges through innovation.
8-Day Design Thinking Coaches Training & Innovation Sprint
Take your skills to the next level with a full week of coach training followed by a 5-day innovation challenge. In this extended sprint, participants are equipped to lead design thinking workshops and guide teams in developing solutions for local businesses and social enterprises.
Programme Structure
Empathy & Define: Understand local social and economic contexts.
Ideate & Prototype: Collaborate with TSIBA peers and coaches to design innovative, tangible prototypes.
Test & Pitch: Present your ideas to a panel of professionals, with top projects considered for real-world implementation or funding.
Train-the-Coach Option:
Participants can join the Design Thinking Coach Training offered the week before the Innovation Challenge. Newly trained coaches will facilitate teams and apply their learning to solve complex real-world problems.

Learning Outcomes
Gain a deep understanding of the five phases of design thinking.
Build empathy and conduct user-centered research.
Apply creative problem-solving and innovation frameworks.
Develop and test prototypes through iterative design.
Strengthen teamwork, leadership, and intercultural collaboration skills.
Earn academic credit (30 SA Credits / DTP-700, with pre- and post-coursework).

Coaches Training (Week 1): Early September 2026
Innovation Design Sprint (Week 2): Early to Mid-September 2026
Additional custom service-learning or internship extensions (1–6 weeks) are available on request.
