Andrew Selondo, BBA 2 student and Nomandla Magube, Assistant Librarian at TSiBA, have started a brand new reading club for students at TSiBA. If reading is one of your 2018 resolutions, TSiBA students and staff have your back!
It’s always exhilarating when a group of young people come together in the name of knowledge. However, knowledge is meaningful when put into action.
We started the book club not only for avid readers but also for students who wants to improve their writing skills, vocabulary or gain more knowledge. Everything you read fills your head with new bits of information, and you never know when it might come in handy especially being in the business world, where you will have to deal with different types of people and will face many different challenges. The book club at TSiBA is a gathering where we discuss general topics affecting young professionals face on a daily basis, book reviews, discuss short stories and novels, create a platform for critical discussions.
Networking is also an aspect we value as a book club and we are planning to attend book launches as well as inviting guest authors to join us. To ensure the club is engaging for every member, participants are welcome to introduce a book of their choosing or even lead a session. We are always open for new suggestions and most importantly anyone is welcome to join us, all you need to do is take the first step and sign up to the book club session.
Visiting Professor Laura Foote led the very first session with a short story, The Sacrificial Lamb by Prof.Sindiwe Magona. It was a great way of connecting with the students and tap into the different reasons that made students sign up for the club. Something that resonated strong with all of us was the drive to push the boundaries of what we already know, and being open to discovering new authors, genres and titles.
